Can You Play Fortnite Offline?

When Epic Games launched Fortnite on July 25, 2017, they first released the “Save The World” mode. They later launched Fortnite Battle Royale on September 26, 2017. Save The World (STW) is technically single-player in that you can play by yourself against Ai, but can you play Fortnite offline?

Unfortunately, you need an internet connection to play Fortnite Battle Royale and even if you want to play Fortnite Save The World. There is currently no way around this, so no, you cannot play Fortnite offline.

With Fortnite being as popular as it is, I feel for anyone who wants to play offline but can’t. The worst scenario will be if someone does not have access to an internet connection. I have some possible solutions, so keep reading and see if you agree or disagree with any of them.

Can you play Fortnite without internet

Fortnite requires an internet connection to play the game. As of writing this article, there is absolutely no way around this.

Can you play Fortnite Save The World alone?

I understand this feeling. Sometimes we just want to play alone. The main reason for this is, sometimes we just want to work on our skills and try new things without worrying about teammates.

Play Fortnite Save The World alone

Fortnite STW is the initial game for Fortnite. It is what is known as a PvE (Player vs. Everything) game mode. The game mode acts as a tower defense style game. You build your base and defend it against hordes of zombies. You also complete story missions that help you build stronger bases, unlock new weapons, heroes, and progress through the game.

The game mode was designed to be co-op. You can load in with friends, or you can load in with random teammates. You can also play Save The World with Ai teammates, and finally, you can play the game mode completely alone.

To play Save The World alone, you have to turn your match settings to “private.”

Why would you want to play Save The World alone?

Although it is very rare these days, sometimes players will load into your mission with no intention of actually helping. It could be worse, in the rarest of cases, a player might load in just to troll you.

A player can troll you by constantly boxing you in, leading zombies to your base, or just by being a nuisance and purposefully blocking you.

Is Fortnite Save The World fun solo?

This answer to this question is fairly subjective. I know people who hate the thought of having random squad-mates. I also have friends who hate the idea of playing games alone. I cannot magically tell which one of those you are.

What I can say is, it is better to play alone than to have a random teammate that turns out to be toxic. There are times, though, where you meet someone in an online game, and you become friends. That friendship can span across different games.

Can you play Fortnite Battle Royale alone

There are several ways in which you can play Battle Royale alone. I find it enjoyable, sometimes. Fortnite offers a variety of game modes within their Battle Royale game. Most of them can be played alone.

Fortnite Battle Royale Solos

If you want to play alone, this is your best option. As the name suggests, you play Solo, no teammates. Just you against 100 other players who are also playing alone. In Solos, there is no revive system, once you die, that is it, you load out back to the lobby and have to load into a completely new match.

Fortnite Battle Royale Duos

In Duos, you can load into a match with a friend. You can also load into a match with a random squadmate.

If you want to play Duos alone, you can. All you have to do is, in the section where you select a mode, click the appropriate button to select “don’t fill.” Once you have selected that option, the matchmaking will not fill your squad with randoms. You can now go up against squads of two as a solo player. GOOD LUCK.

This can make for some really good building practice as you try to defend yourself against two or more players at a time.

Fortnite Battle Royale Squads

The Squads mode is the most popular of the three. Squads is a team-based mode where you squad up with up to four players. Squads is best played with a team of friends, but you can jump in and be paired with random teammates. You don’t have to have a full squad, either. I found that having a group of three and not four, didn’t really impact my win ratio that much.

You can play squads alone, but I wouldn’t recommend this. The only reason I could think of when I think why someone would play alone in squads is for practice reasons.

To play squads alone, it is the same process as Duos. Simple toggle the setting to “don’t fill,” and you will load in alone. Again, I have to add, GOOD LUCK.

Fortnite Battle Royale Creative

Ok, so in this mode, you load in and do whatever you want. It is mainly used for people to practice their building skills. You can load in with a teammate and go up against each other, and when one dies, you just respawn with all your stuff and go again.

Fortnite Battle Royale Live events

When we think of Live events, we often think of in-game events, and Epic does those really well.

They also hold live events in the form of competitions. You need to check the events tab every day to keep up to date. These events allow you and your team to sign up and play for different prizes. Sometimes the prize is actual money. There are also solo Live events for players who prefer playing alone.

Is Fortnite Battle Royale fun solo?

For this one, for me personally, yes, Battle Royale is fun to play alone. You get to try new things, land in new areas and find new ways of approaching enemies. You can do all of this without having to worry about teammates.

Other Fortnite Battle Royale modes

It is no secret that Epic Games created a new standard for Live-Service-Games. Epic constantly updates the game with new areas on the map, new weapons, new accessories, skins, and the list goes on and on.

They also add and remove new game modes, which helps the game stay fresh. These modes are known as “LTMs.” It stands for “Limited Time Modes,” and that is what they are. Modes like gold only guns, only snipers allowed and stuff like that. It helps to keep the game fresh.

Possible solution for offline play

I was thinking pretty hard about this the other day. There must be a solution for players who want to play offline.

In Battle Royale, Epic Games have already added Ai bots into multiplayer matches to help fill lobbies. The developers should add an offline mode where people with no internet can play against Ai.

For Save the world, the mode already has a storyline. You already have the option to squad up with Ai. I see no reason why they cannot limit the live service and make the game playable with no internet connection.

The problem lies in the live service model. Most of what happens in Fortnite is controlled via the internet. To add offline modes, they would limit the game, and this might make the game boring. A boring game would hurt their reputation.

Conclusion

Fortnite is a game that took the world by storm, and there is an entire culture that surrounds the game. It also sparked life into the Battle Royale genre.

I do feel like we need a solution that caters for offline players.
